American Wholesale Fireworks is proud to offer PGI Display Operator Course (DOC) training opportunities throughout the year, giving fireworks enthusiasts and aspiring professionals the chance to expand their knowledge, gain hands-on experience, and take the next step into professional-use pyrotechnics.
The Pyrotechnics Guild International (PGI) Display Operator Course is a comprehensive, full-day training program designed to teach current fireworks display practices and serve as the first step toward becoming a PGI Certified Display Operator.
What You'll Learn
The PGI Display Operator Course combines classroom instruction with live-fire field training, providing participants with both technical knowledge and practical experience.
Course topics include:
- Fireworks display operations and industry best practices
- Display site setup and safety procedures
- Fireworks handling and firing practices
- Applicable regulations and safety requirements
- NFPA 1123 and NFPA 1124 standards
- Hands-on live-fire field training
Participants also receive a copy of the current PGI Display Operator Textbook to use during the course and keep as a valuable reference.
Because hands-on live-fire training is an essential part of the program, the PGI Display Operator Course is not offered as an online-only course.

Completing an eligible PGI Display Operator Course can help satisfy the training/documentation requirements for purchasing professional-use 1.4G fireworks (commonly referred to as 1.4 Pro) from American Wholesale Fireworks.
Please note: Completion of the course does not by itself grant a professional license or authorize the use of fireworks where otherwise prohibited. Purchasers must meet all applicable American Wholesale Fireworks requirements and comply with federal, state, and local laws governing the purchase, possession, storage, transportation, and use of professional-use fireworks.
